Perception or Reality

How does the meaning of language, and the way typography is used, alter the perception and perspective of things seen? One of the five senses, sight, perceives and understands. Sight also allows for the perception of color, shape, depth, distance, movement, and communication. Memories are sorted in different parts of the brain the hippocampus, the neocortex and the amygdala. They retain information about events lived, embedding meaning and patterns into the day-to-day tasks. Perception can be interpreted in multiple ways depending on the message being communicated behind an object or image. Seeing a word, object, color, or shape will not always mean the same to everyone because of the correlation between memories and meaning. When a word is spoken, the purpose is created by experiences or memories shaping a person's perception. Words create thoughts, and thoughts bring memories, and “memories make each of us unique, and they give continuity to our lives.”[1] This project will express through photograph and video, typography seen in different angles and how different meanings are developed. According to Fiona Macdonald (2021) “If there is an existing linguistic distinction about something in the language a person speaks, the person does not have any trouble in identifying the item. If the distinction is lacking in the language, the speaker will find it hard to do it.”[2] When an interpretation is developed, what is perceived should not be formalized to one meaning or subject. Instead, interpretation should be an expression of the world one lives in.
