Finding [my way] Home
Tatum Newman
Finding [my way] home explores the impulse to collect sentimental memorabilia of the mundane while questioning the disorientation caused by a desire to visualize a cohesive, curated self. The internal conflict of deciding what is and isn’t presentable is subverted by the concept of identity being a network of references, knowledge, memories and emotions. Utilizing the energetic nature of collage to visualize the misdirection felt while cultivating a sense of self. Fragments of memories, emotions and thoughts overlap and are masked flat to provide a readable, palatable surface. The wax emphasizes the urge to preserve our sense of identity while revealing traces of personal geographies.
